The Piledriver is a lead alloy boat-tail pellet which gives outstanding downrange energy,
guaranteed to be unsurpassed by any conventional Diablo pellet of equivalent weight.
|
|
Designed primarily for high powered pre-charged air rifles, the .177 can also be used in sub.12 ft.lbs air rifles
(see compatibility schedule).
It is extremely difficult to predict how a particular pellet will perform in an
airgun. This is because of the variables in barrel bores,
breech faces, loading methods and kinetic energy. Even two airguns of the same make and model can give different results. The loading probes on some spring wound magazine fed rifles do not always present the Piledriver with the
centreline of the bore, but this does not adversely affect the conventional Diablo pellet, which has its skirt larger than the head and this will centralise itself. The Piledriver has its head larger than the boat-tail, so it cannot centralise itself without being held concentrically by the probe. |

Revolutionary
boat-tail design |
|
| It is ESSENTIAL for the loading probe to either shroud the boat-tail or enter the recess, otherwise the pellet will not enter the bore concentrically, leading to inaccuracy.
Probes need to be not more than 2.5mm in diameter to enter the boat-tail and with the current Theoben Rapid series its probe is unsuitable. This is one of the main reasons that we do not recommend them for this excellent rifle. |

In accuracy and power tests for the.177 calibre, the 4.46mm body diameter works best in Walther barrels and the 4.50mm in BSA barrels. The .22 / 5.52mm performs well in most 5.5mm barrels provided the probe is as described above and the magazine is not spring loaded. It is not recommended for spring piston
or gas ram rifles below 16 ft.lbs kinetic energy and for optimum results
the pellets should be inserted into the bore with the Piledriver pellet seater which helps to centralise the pellet.
|
| In some sub 12 ft.lbs rifles there is an increase in power between 10% to 20% in .177
calibre, but not in .22, where there may be a decrease. Customers in the UK without firearms certificates are advised to check the kinetic energy of their .177 pre-charged air rifles to ensure that they are within the UK 12 ft.lbs legal limit, with the
Piledriver, whether they intend to use it or not.
